Ethical code and memes

Group exercise

Time: 30–40 min

Tools: Pen and paper, computer or tablet

Goal: Discuss the rules of taking photographs and using the images. Practice creating a meme.

Transversal competences: L2, L3, L4, L7

In small groups, draw up your own ethical code of conduct on photography or image use and implement it as a meme.

Ethical rules are based on values and function as directions on what is allowed and what is not. For example: “When you take pictures in the school corridor, it’s a good idea to ask for permission from every person visible in the picture”. Familiarise yourselves with rules and laws related to taking and using photos. There’s a lot of information about it for example on the website Kopiraittila School, which is maintained by Kopiosto.

A meme is a joke or an insightful thought, which is often implemented by combining a short text with an image, animation or video. A successful meme is funny but does not discriminate anyone.
