How can you read images?
Our brain processes visual information faster than written text. We are immediately affected by the images around us. We can also see pictures in our minds eye, when we remember events from the past or plan the future. To interpret images is an important skill, as it helps us understand our own reality.
Each one of us interprets images in their own way, through personal experiences, thoughts and emotions. By interpreting and discussing images, we can learn new things about ourselves, other people and the world around us.
The Neemo™ method
There are several methods for approaching image interpretation. One of them is the coaching method Neemo™, created by the photographic artist Nanna Hänninen. In this method photographs and photographic art are used to strengthen the interaction between people.
In the Neemo™ method Hänninen provides her own works for the participants to practice interpreting photographs. The method also includes photography exercises, which help the participants learn new things about themselves, and process topics that are hard to put into words.
Hännisen mukaan taide on on visuaalista dialogia, joka edistää empatiaa ja oppimistaitoja.
