Photography exercise

Time: 50-60 min

Tools: Computer or tablet, smart phone

Goal: Reflect over the role of photography in constructing scientific knowledge. Practice illustrating scientific information with the help of photography.

Transversal competences: L1, L2, L4

Study different natural phenomena on the internet or in books. You can, for example, discuss the following questions:

What type of pictures work well? Why?
In what other contexts could the pictures be shown?
What would it be like to study physics if the textbooks had no pictures?
What kind of information can be conveyed through photography?
Can image choices affect the credibility of scientific research? How?

Next, try to illustrate a natural phenomenon using photography.

Choose a natural phenomenon. Plan and take 1-3 photographs of it with your mobile phone.
Write captions for your photographs that talk about the phenomenon in the pictures.
Present your images and captions to the group.
